Welcome to Elderfield Elderfield Gift Guide
Loved, liked, and hated items so friendship does not stall the farm.
Gifts in Welcome to Elderfield are not flavor text. A loved item opens tasks, recipes, and locked rooms. A hated item wastes the only gift you can hand that neighbor today. Use this page with the townsfolk roster and the townsfolk hub so you know where people stand before you open the inventory. The farm still comes first: if you are choosing between watering wheat and chasing a perfect moth, water the wheat. The first-week planner is the schedule; this page is the shopping list.
The game is single-player. Nobody else is going to cover your Tax Man tithe while you cook Void Dinner. Cook in batches, stash loved gifts in a chest by the door, and never gift the crop you still owe Hans.
Universal caution
Beating Heart is a widely loved oddity. If you find one, it is a safe high-impact gift for Tanner, Sam, Molly, and several others. Soul Fruit is Sam’s kind of loved item and also pleases Molly; it is gated and expensive, so do not spend it on a random kid at the playground. Ice Cream looks friendly and is a trap for Tanner and Ellie. Eyeballs and teeth are crafting ingredients first; Tanner hates both, and Molly hates Tooth. When in doubt, gift cooked food you can spare, not raw organs you still need for cooking.
One gift per neighbor per day is the working rule. Talk as well as gift. Farm visits are bonus windows: if Sam or Ellie shows up on your land, they may linger — use that, then go back to watering.
Tanner
Loves: Aged Rum, Beating Heart, Harvest Stew, Shadewing Moth.
Hates: Eyeball, Tooth, Ice Cream (plus other universal hated junk such as Stealth Musk).
Aged Rum is the practical early loved gift if you can buy or loot it. Harvest Stew is the cooking flex once Elroy’s recipes open. Shadewing Moth is an Old Woods bug, not a farm crop. Do not hand him Eyeleaf harvests; that plant is for gold and recipes, not for Tanner. Find him at the Old Woods cabin, the outskirts, or the evening Saloon. Rain pins him at home, which is the cleanest gift attempt of the week.
Sam
Loves: Soul Fruit, Voidbloom, Void Dinner, Beating Heart (and other void-leaning luxuries such as Void Crystal Bar).
Hates: pumpkin dishes, Ghost Flounder, and a pile of farm-staple cooked meat.
This is the most important “do not gift the obvious crop” rule on the wiki. Pumpkin is A-tier for gold and pies and a Hans unlock. Sam hates the pumpkin line. If you walk into Greystone Apt 1 with Pumpkin Pie, you are paying for the privilege of being disliked. Void Dinner is the cooked target once you can assemble it. Soul Fruit is the late loved crop. Until then, hold a Beating Heart or a void side dish. Sam’s note still matters more than her friendship meter: 43_81 leads to Dave’s 43681 door on the mysteries route.
Ellie
Ellie leans macabre. Loved gifts include Beating Heart, Bloodwing Moth, Gorgon’s Eye, pickled eyeballs, Spectral Rain, and Soul Fruit. She hates ice cream, holy water, brain-cleansing balm, and stealth musk. Check rain before you hunt her on the street; she stays home when the weather turns. She is a poor dump for leftover pumpkin muffins and a good dump for eyeballs Tanner refused.
Farmer Hans and the farm circle
Hans is a quest hub more than a birthday boy. His love language is completed tasks: wheat first, then later skull chalices and mall hunts. Gift him if you have a spare loved item, but never at the cost of the wheat he asked for. Chef Elroy wants you cooking, not handing him raw seeds. Klaus wants gold for house upgrades more than a moth in a jar. Henrietta, if you reach the ranch, is an animal vendor — feed and gold, not Soul Fruit.
Molly
Molly loves Beating Heart, Soul Fruit, Pale Empress Moth, platinum, void crystal bars, and a few mine trophies. She likes bars, scrap, and pumpkin pie (unlike Sam). She hates Tooth, slime pizza, and several “precious” junk items. The correct early “gift” is still copper ore from her own mine. Once furnaces run, a spare bar is a better present than a toothbush harvest. See fishing and mining for the copper loop.
Playground kids and apartment neighbors
Abby, Witchkid, Pumpkid, and Billy will accept weirdness. Do not spend Soul Fruit on them until adult routes are fed. Amelia, Martin, Adrian, Jeannie, and Akira are slower burns: liked cooked food beats hated fish. Old Man Jackson is a landmark as much as a friend. Dave wants the door code more than a casserole. The Mall Rat wants you buying pickaxes in the food-court mine, not handing him wheat. The Tax Man is not giftable in any useful sense; he collects. Sven wants void offerings tied to Old Gods play, which is a late specialization.
What to grow for gifts
Plant wheat and radish for survival and Hans. Plant a small Eyeleaf patch for eyeball recipes and Ellie, not for Tanner. Unlock pumpkin for pies you will sell or gift to anyone except Sam. Beans are a regrow crop; they feed cooking more than friendship. Cursed high-value plants (Eldersprout, Soul Fruit) are gift ammunition once gated seeds exist — rank them on the crop list before you turn a whole field into dating fuel.
Cook leftovers every night. A stew in the fridge is a gift, a mall snack, and a combat heal. Do not walk into the mall dungeon carrying the only Harvest Stew you meant for Tanner.
Practical gifting loop
- Water crops and pay (or bank for) the Tax Man.
- Check weather: rain means Ellie and Tanner are probably home.
- Grab one loved item from the door chest.
- Talk, gift, leave. Do not empty your bag.
- If you missed them, try the evening Saloon.
- Sleep with curses in mind; a cursed morning is a bad gifting morning.
Romance routes on the romance guide use the same loved/hated tables. There is no separate dating inventory. If you plan to court someone, keep their hated crops off the gift hotbar even when those crops are otherwise S-tier gold.
Come back here whenever a neighbor’s face falls. Elderfield tells you, clearly, when you handed over the wrong horror.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What does Tanner love and hate?
He loves Aged Rum, Beating Heart, Harvest Stew, and Shadewing Moth. He hates Eyeball, Tooth, and Ice Cream. Find his house on the townsfolk roster.
What does Sam love, and can I gift pumpkin pie?
No pumpkin pie. Sam hates pumpkin dishes and Ghost Flounder. She loves Soul Fruit, Voidbloom, Void Dinner, and Beating Heart.
Is Beating Heart a safe gift?
It is one of the safest loved items for Tanner, Sam, Molly, and Ellie. Still do not spend it if you needed that inventory slot for a mall heal. Combat food rules sit in the combat guide.
Should I gift crops I still need for quests?
No. Hans wants wheat. The Tax Man will name a tithe. Gift from surplus after farming and the first-week planner are stable.
Do gifts matter for romance?
Yes. Loved and hated tables are the same. Read the romance guide after week one, not instead of watering.
