Welcome to Elderfield Mall Dungeon Walkthrough
First dungeon of the Steam demo: food court bosses, Mall Mines, and the Elder Gem chain.
The local mall is the first dungeon in Welcome to Elderfield. The Steam demo, playable since October 2024, uses this rotting indoor maze as its vertical-slice crawl: Shoppers still pace the tiles, Rats nest in the corridors, and a food court called Burgers Burgers still smells like oil that never cooled. The full PC game is dated September 10, 2026. Treat this page as a combat-and-loot map for that first descent, not a claim that later dungeon layers already sit on the store page.
Before you walk east, cook. Meals from the home kitchen keep hit points up while you explore, and the mall punishes empty pockets harder than the farm path. Read the cooking and crafting guide for oven recipes, then the combat guide so Insanity, Curse, Insight, Light, and Darkness mean something when a Shopper lunges. Pack a real weapon, a bath plan from sleep and curses, and a route from the demo walkthrough. The game is single-player; nobody else can pull aggro for you.
Layout and how you enter
Town east holds the mall. Floor one mixes open concourse, side stores, and locked hallways. The food court sits deeper in, with Burgers Burgers on one side and the Mall Mines entrance nearby. Back hallways hide the Hall Monitor and, later, the Mall Administrator. Tentacles can block maintenance routes until you finish the Administrator fight. If you are still clearing wheat for Hans, finish the farming loop first so you are not starving between mall trips.
Abby, in the south park, gives a simple test: fight a Shopper. That is the right first kill. Shoppers are weak to Insanity and Curse and drop Mystery Meat, which feeds both cooking and later gifts. Rats share the same floors and are weak to Curse and Light. Pipe Cleaners show up where the building still pretends to have plumbing. None of these fights need a boss kit, but they stack curses if you skip baths.
Hallway bosses
The Hall Monitor is the first real wall: 150 HP, Insight and Curse weakness, and a +1 AP drop that changes how many actions you get in later turns. Townsfolk hint that something in the back hallways is not a normal employee. Do not walk in with starter tools and leftover pizza. Spend the AP drop on a second attack or a defensive skill instead of banking it for a farm day. Compare loadouts on the combat tier list after the fight, not before you have the extra point.
Mall Administrator is the heavier office fight: 250 HP, Insanity and Insight weakness. The loot matters more than the HP bar. Skull of the Mall is a dungeon key item, and All or Nothing is the kind of high-risk piece you only equip after you understand turn order. An office worker in the back hallways would rather not call admin. Catch the rare fish they want from the nearby pool, then rest on the spare bed before you knock. Beating the Administrator clears tentacles in the back hallways and opens the rest of the maintenance map. Adrian’s tentacle cleanup task lines up with this clear and can reward a Basic Axe, which you will want for wood later.
Food court and the Deep-Fryer
Farmer Hans sends you on Fast Food Fiend: defeat the monster in Burgers Burgers. That is the Denizen of the Deep-Fryer, 200 HP, weak to Light and Darkness. It lives in grease and leftover menu boards. Bring Light or Darkness damage rather than the Insanity kit you used on Shoppers. The food court also hides a God shrine and several mysteries worth a luck roll after the fight.
Mystery Meat from Shoppers and Rats cooks into exploration food. If you are still unlocking Chef Elroy’s pumpkin recipes, you do not need pie for this room; you need any dense meal and a clean curse list. Pair the run with old gods only if you already picked a Sunday alignment that boosts the element you plan to swing.
Mall Mines F1 to F3
The mine shaft opens from the food court, which is a sentence no healthy mall should allow. Mall Mines run F1 through F3 with shifting rooms. Talk to the Mall Rat just inside. He sells the Basic Pickaxe — your rusty tool from Molly will not cut the deeper nodes — and he opens the Sealed Passage when you are ready.
Molly, on the town outskirts, wants the Elder Gem. The chain is linear once you have the pickaxe:
- Mall Rat opens the Sealed Passage.
- Find the lost miner.
- He hands you a Peculiar Offering for clearing the path.
- Take that offering to the altar.
- Fight the Gem Golem.
- Carry the Elder Gem back to Molly.
Copper for Molly’s earlier workshop task comes from the Beginner Mines near her forge, not from these gem veins. See fishing and mining for ore routes. Hans also asks for a Giant Skull Chalice whose ores live in Mall Mines rather than the beginner shaft; starting that task grants a Furnace and the furnace recipe, which you need before you smelt anything serious.
Floor three hides a big tree. You cannot cut it with a rusty axe. Come back with a sturdier blade after Adrian’s cleanup or a later upgrade. Small mine keys, sold by the Mall Rat or found as forage, open extra doors including a possible F3 gate.
Mines still spawn Cavemen, Living Rocks, Hungry Plants, Fingermen, and mimics. Layouts shuffle, so map memory helps less than food, keys, and a bath at home. Cozy mode trivializes fights if you only want the gem; Normal keeps enemy stats at 100 percent. Nightmare is a poor first mall run. Check controls if a menu bind eats an item mid-fight.
After the gem
Turn the Elder Gem in, smelt what you carried, and spend the Hall Monitor AP on a loadout you actually like. Then use the mall as a hub: luck-roll hallway mysteries, fish the admin pool, and shop the Mall Rat for pickaxe, stone, and keys. Klaus handles house upgrades in town, not down here. For a day-by-day route, use the first-week planner. For patch caveats, read demo notes. The Guides Hub lists the rest of the how-to pages, including Getting Started if you skipped the farm tutorial.
The mall is scheduled to grow in the September 10, 2026 build, with more dungeon layers planned beyond this first slice. Until that date, treat F1 through the Gem Golem as the complete demo dungeon: eat, bathe, pickaxe, offering, gem, go home.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where is the mall dungeon in Welcome to Elderfield?
East of town. Floor one holds Shoppers, Rats, and locked hallways. The food court deeper in contains Burgers Burgers, a God shrine, and the Mall Mines entrance.
How do I beat the Hall Monitor?
The Hall Monitor has 150 HP and is weak to Insight and Curse. Bring cooked food, a real weapon, and a clean curse list. The fight drops +1 AP. See the combat guide for element kits.
Where do I get the Basic Pickaxe?
Buy it from the Mall Rat just inside the Mall Mines in the food court. The rusty pickaxe from Molly's early task is not enough for the deeper nodes.
How do I find the Elder Gem for Molly?
Ask the Mall Rat to open the Sealed Passage, rescue the lost miner for a Peculiar Offering, place it on the altar, defeat the Gem Golem, and carry the Elder Gem back to Molly.
What is the Denizen of the Deep-Fryer?
A 200 HP food-court boss in Burgers Burgers, weak to Light and Darkness. Farmer Hans's Fast Food Fiend task sends you there. Do not use the same Insanity kit you used on Shoppers.
Can I cut the big tree on Mall Mines 3F?
Not with a rusty axe. Return with a sturdier blade after Adrian's tentacle cleanup or a later upgrade. The tree is a delayed forage node, not a required gem step.
