Welcome to Elderfield Wiki

Welcome to Elderfield is a single-player cozy horror farming RPG. You inherit a quiet life in a town that has stood since the Old Gods willed it, then spend days farming, fishing, mining, cooking, gifting, and walking into places that should not still have fluorescent lights. Comfort is a resource with a meter. Sleep can cure you or mark you. The local mall is a dungeon. The livestock is only mostly animal. If that sentence makes you curious instead of tired, you are in the right basement.

Solo Canadian developer Chris Cote built the game in RPG Maker MZ under Ill-Advised Games. Kwalee publishes the Steam PC release, dated September 10, 2026. The soundtrack is dark lofi by Dated. The art is hand-drawn with a horror-manga spine: Junji Ito in the faces and flesh, Stardew Valley in the daily checklist, Fear & Hunger in the way a failed mall run can empty your pockets and your nerve. There is single-player only, no drop-in farmhand, and no Roblox port. You play alone, which is the correct number of people to bring to Elderfield.

The loop

A typical day starts in a customizable house. You save, bathe, cook, watch a news program that is a little wrong, and decide whether the Pale Moon is a reason to stay in. West is the farm: Farmer Hans, a skull who outgrew a body and rented you his fields, plus Old Man Crawford’s tools and Chef Elroy’s recipes. You clean Ghost Tentacles off plots, water wheat, and try not to let crows or otherworldly visitors unmake the row. East is town and the mall. Between them you fish, poke a shifting mine, talk to townsfolk on their own clocks, and roll mysteries that can bless a stat or curse your week.

The loop is die, learn, farm, forage, then die with better information. Combat is turn-based Action Point play against Lovecraftian pests and mall staff who are no longer on the payroll. Once a fight starts you cannot run, so Cozy difficulty exists so the horror can stay in the writing, the crops, and the night events while fights get out of your way. Harder presets keep enemy numbers and punish sloppy deaths. Pick the preset on purpose; the combat guide explains what each one actually changes.

Tone: cute until it is not

Elderfield sells contrast. You grow corn next to teeth. You prune tentacles before they claim a tile. You befriend a skeleton, a shut-in, a laundry ghost, and children who are not using the playground correctly. Dated’s score keeps the town in a low, warm unease even when you are only watering. The jokes are dry. The body horror is sincere. Players who want a pure cozy harvest without luck curses or hallway ambushes will bounce unless they stay on Cozy and skip the mall. Players who want a dungeon crawler with a farm attached will find the mall, the mines, and later the Old Woods and Catacombs.

The demo trailer below is the official vertical-slice pitch, not a 1.0 recap. Watch it as a tone check, then read the Getting Started page before you donate your first hour to a mystery ATM.

Demo reception and what 1.0 is for

A free alpha demo has been on Steam since October 2024. It is one town district, the farm and ranch, the mall as dungeon one, and extra rooms around the edges. The developer has described that slice as about one-sixth of the planned finished game, often ten to twenty hours if you chase optional tasks. Steam user reviews on that demo sat at about 96% positive across hundreds of posts heading into 1.0 week: Overwhelmingly Positive by the usual store buckets, earned over a long public alpha rather than a launch-week spike.

The full game is dated September 10, 2026. Promised 1.0 growth includes more than three times the demo town, the Old Woods and Catacombs as extra dungeon lines with multiple floors, calendar events, Old God alignment, marriage, and an Art Gallery collection that produces a key for the final boss. Three dungeon skulls, gallery completion, and the stone tower on the farm are designed as pillars that meet at that last door. Kwalee announced Steam Deck Verified status in August 2026, and the store lists full controller support. None of that turns the project into a live-service or a multiplayer ranch.

Read the release date page for the calendar and the demo notes page for what the public slice still omits. Do not import 1.0 promises into a demo save and then call the demo broken.

Systems this wiki covers

Start in the guides hub if you want a route. Farming is the economy. Sleep and curses is the self-care trap: baths heal and strip every blessing with every curse; sleep after 6pm rolls the night. Cooking and crafting is how mall attempts last more than two fights. Fishing and mining feed the furnace and the chalice quest that unlocks better seeds. The mall dungeon is the first boss school. Mysteries and Old Gods are the luck and patronage layers. Romance and the townsfolk hub cover hearts, gifts, and the one-spouse rule. Rank crops and loadouts on the tier list after you understand unlocks. Plan a demo week from the tools hub and the first-week planner. Watch dates from the updates hub.

Official downloads and Discord live on the links hub. This wiki is independent of the welcometoelderfield.wiki.gg community encyclopedia and independent of Kwalee. We write walkthroughs and overviews. They do not patch your game.

Who this is for

Play the demo if you like farming games that stay weird after the tutorial, JRPGs that let you run, or horror that lives in furniture and schedules instead of jump-scare volume. Wait for Cozy mode if combat is the part you hate. Wait for September 10, 2026 if you only want the three-dungeon, marriage, gallery-key version and you do not enjoy unfinished towns. Either way, you will still be one player, on PC, in a town that would prefer you did not leave.
