Townsfolk Hub

Welcome to Elderfield’s townsfolk are the reason the farm is worth watering. This hub maps the neighbors you meet in the Steam demo and the characters the full PC game (dated September 10, 2026) expands. The game is a single-player cozy horror farming RPG by Chris Cote, published by Kwalee. You talk, gift, cook, and poke at locked doors; nobody else joins your save.

Pages in this hub

  • Townsfolk roster — homes, rain-day habits, and who to greet on day one.
  • Gift guide — loved, liked, and hated items so you do not hand Tanner an eyeball.

Read both before you dump inventory on the first friendly face. Friendship is a resource: it unlocks notes, recipes, mines, and the kind of gossip the evening news never prints.

Who matters in week one

Tanner lives in a cabin beside the Old Woods and is often the first person outside your house. Sam rents Apt 1 in Greystone Estates and is the key to Dave’s locked door. Farmer Hans is the skeleton who lets you work the western fields; bring him wheat. Molly runs the workshop on the farm path and needs copper. Ellie stays home in rain. Kids haunt the playground: Abby (Witchkid), Pumpkid, and Billy. Klaus sells house upgrades. Chef Elroy sells recipes after Hans trusts you. The Mall Rat gates the food-court mines. The Tax Man walks the farm path on his own calendar. Sven wants void offerings, not small talk.

The Getting Started page covers the walk from your kitchen to Hans. Pair it with the first-week planner so gifts do not starve the farm.

How this hub is organized

The roster is geography: cabins, apartments, the playground, the saloon. The gift page is inventory: Aged Rum versus Ice Cream, Soul Fruit versus pumpkin pie. Cross-link both while you play. If a neighbor hates a crop you are ranking on the crop list, plant a second plot for friendship instead of gold.

Evening crowds the Saloon. Night sends people home. Rain pins Ellie and several others indoors, which is useful if you need a conversation and the sky will not cooperate. Schedules in the demo can shift after tasks (Tanner waits at the outskirts for a lost Game Boy; Sam lingers at Greystone during Childhood Fear). Treat wiki times as a map, not a bus timetable.

Romance, tasks, and mysteries

Some townsfolk can be romanced in the full design. Do not rush that on day two. Complete tasks, watch the news, and open mysteries first. Sam’s cryptic note (43_81) becomes Dave’s door code 43681. That is a neighbor puzzle, not a dungeon. Adrian and Jeannie share an F1 apartment; Akira is on F2; Amelia and Martin round out the quieter houses; Old Man Jackson sits near a northeast bus stop. You will walk past all of them while chasing the mall dungeon.

Romance routes, if you chase them, live on the romance guide. Gifts still matter there: a hated item can stall a route faster than a missed festival. Keep one loved gift in a chest near the door so you are not cooking under a curse at 11pm.

What this is not

This is not a ranked arena roster. There is no competitive meta. “Best character” means “who unblocks the next system.” Hans unblocks farming. Molly unblocks smithing and the beginner mine. Elroy unblocks cooking books. The Mall Rat unblocks deeper ore. Rank fights separately on the combat list.

Keep official links and the updates hub nearby so Steam dates and demo patches do not surprise you. The demo has been playable since October 2024; the full game is still upcoming. If you only have an evening, greet Tanner, walk west to Hans, and leave a cooked leftover in the fridge for whoever visits the farm after dark — then check the Saloon after 6pm instead of sprinting to the mall hungry.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Who should I talk to first in Welcome to Elderfield?

Step outside and greet Tanner, then walk west to Farmer Hans. That pair opens the farm. Molly is the third stop once you have a pickaxe. See the townsfolk roster and the first-week planner.

Is Welcome to Elderfield multiplayer?

No. It is a single-player PC game on Steam. Friendship, gifts, and romance all happen in your save alone.

Where do I look up loved and hated gifts?

Use the gift guide. Tanner loves Aged Rum, Beating Heart, Harvest Stew, and Shadewing Moth. Sam loves Soul Fruit, Voidbloom, Void Dinner, and Beating Heart, and hates pumpkin dishes.

Does rain change NPC locations?

Yes. Ellie stays home in rain, and several others retreat indoors. If you need a conversation, check houses before you hunt the street. Details sit on the roster.

How do I open Dave's locked door?

Get Sam's cryptic note (`43_81`) and try `43681` on the door. It is a neighbor puzzle, not a mall key. Walkthrough context is on mysteries.
