Welcome to Elderfield Items and Equipment Guide
Every item category, crafting material, weapon, and resource — what things are and what they do.
Items and equipment in Welcome to Elderfield fall into three broad categories: consumables you eat or use in battle, crafting materials you process through the forge and kitchen, and quest items that gate story progression. This page is the reference index. It does not replace the cooking and crafting page for recipes, the fishing and mining page for bait and ore loops, or the combat page for weapon tiers — it tells you what every item is and where it comes from.
The demo contains roughly 70 food items, 20 crafting materials, a dozen weapons and armor pieces, and a set of key quest items. The full 1.0 build dated September 10, 2026 will expand all of these categories significantly.

Weapons and equipment
Weapons are the primary combat investment. The tutorial stick is insufficient for mall content. Progression follows the mining and forging loop: copper bars from Beginner Mines → Molly’s forge → copper weapons → Mall Mines ores → better loadout.
The combat page has the full weapon tier breakdown. This page indexes what exists and where to find it.
Weapons (known in demo):
| Weapon | Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Stick | Tutorial | Starting weapon; insufficient for mall |
| Rusty Pickaxe | Molly’s Helping Molly reward | First real tool; not a combat weapon |
| Basic Pickaxe | Mall Rat (Mall Mines F1) | Required for Mall Mines; not a combat weapon |
| Copper Sword | Molly’s forge (copper bars) | First real weapon |
| Bloody Cleaver | Sewer altar (Parks & Rec) — high roll | Rare drop; strong early weapon |
| Leather Chaps | Sewer altar — mid roll | Rare drop; armor piece |
| Tattered Hood | Mall altar tree — mid roll | Rare drop; head armor |
Armor and accessories:

| Slime | Globule | Crafting ingredient | Crafting system input |

Item management tips
Inventory strategy:
- Cook raw ingredients before carrying them. A stack of Bitter Herbs is heavier than a stack of cooked dishes.
- Sell high-sell-price items (Golden Mushroom 150g, Earthen Morel 30g) before they crowd your bag.
- Keep Cleansing Balm in the top layer of your bag for mid-dungeon curse removal.
- Bath to reset monster drops if you are farming a specific loot table — enemies respawn with the bath cycle.
Bait management:
- Buy bait packs from the General Store; check the Garbage Man on Monday and Thursday for odd lots.
- Maggots are the primary sewer fishing bait. Keep a stack.
- Leeches for Fog Eels also come from bait packs.
Smelting before gifting:
- Always smelt ore to bars before giving it to NPCs who want ore. A copper bar is worth more than raw copper ore.
- The Furnace unlocks from Hans’s Skull Chalice task. Do not skip it.
Items and equipment are the infrastructure of survival in Elderfield. The farm grows them, the mines pull them from the earth, the monsters carry them, and the kitchen and forge turn them into a loadout. See the combat, cooking, and fishing and mining pages for the systems that generate these resources.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the best food item in the demo?
Soul Stew at 250 HP plus 2 random blessings is the highest HP restore. Void Dinner at 120 HP plus Zealotry is the best combat buff food. Harvest Stew at 100 HP and 10 MP is the most balanced mid-tier meal.
Where do I get a real weapon?
Copper bars smelted at Molly's forge make the first real weapon. The Bloody Cleaver from the sewer altar (Parks & Rec) is a rare high-roll drop that outperforms copper early if you get it.
Should I sell Golden Mushrooms?
Yes. At 150g sell price they are the best foraging income. Keep a few for crafting if you use the crafting system, but the sell value is the primary benefit.
What do I do with all these mushrooms?
Cook them or sell them. Earthen Morel (30g) is the best cooking ingredient for high-value dishes. Common Mushrooms (10g) are basic cooking fuel. Red Mushrooms should be cooked, not eaten raw.
How do I get the Furnace?
Complete Hans's Skull Chalice task. He asks for ores from Mall Mines. Completing the task rewards the Furnace, which lets you smelt ore into bars for forging and crafting.
What is Sam's Cryptic Note for?
It contains the code 43_81 for Dave's locked door. The missing digit is 6, so enter 43681. Keep the note — later builds fold catacomb access under Dave's house.
